The year is off to a blazing start and the goals I have set out for myself are on pace to be shattered. At the beginning of the year (just over 3 weeks ago), my 2023 goals were to do at least 3 real estate acquisitions per month and one flip per quarter. I am proud to say that I am currently on pace to blow that out of the water. Just last week alone, I contracted 4 acquisitions, 3 of them in one day, and I am capturing this traction and using it to exceed even my wildest expectations. This has all been made possible through the power of community and spreading value to others without the expectation of a return. Putting out that type of energy into the universe has reciprocated 100 fold for me and I couldn’t be more grateful.
The power of community
Over the past year, I have tried numerous methods of looking for deals to either buy or wholesale. I’ve used every method under the sun. From cold calling, to going on-market, to hiring virtual assistants just to name a few. I found very little success in 2022 finding and acquiring good deals. I didn’t really know where to look or who to talk to about it. Everything just seemed like a dead end or perpetually torturous. The difference for me thus far in 2023 is that I have a few deals under my belt and I’m in a position to be able to add value to other people’s businesses. These gestures, for example, have been as simple as making a few connections for someone that pan out to be a good fit. Just recently, I made a connection for someone who needed funding for a deal they were doing, and my connection ended up funding their deal! The act of connecting the two parties took some thought and about 20 minutes of work, but it allowed someone to grow their business. In return for that, I’ve been offered to partner on multiple deals with that person just from that one gesture. And this is just one example of what the power of community has done for me in 2023. A lot of my deals have been sourced this way and I’m excited for the opportunity of forming and expanding these new lucrative partnerships I’ve formed.
Lose the entitlement
Another thing that has helped me find success in 2023 is the attitude of asking myself “how can I add value to this person and their deals?”. The attitude of most people when they get into any sort of business is, “How can I maximize my gain even at the expense of others?”. This entitled attitude is not an attractive quality and you will find it hard to gain traction and form meaningful relationships with others if you are quick to put them in a precarious spot for your own personal gain.
Masterminding and collaborating with others in a truly genuine way is a surefire process to connect and form meaningful relationships all while improving your own business and development. Connecting with others and having thought provoking conversations about what each person is struggling with most in their business will help spread ideas that lead to the collective growth of each participant in these conversations. When you make the conversation about others and their issues, oftentimes you get value out of the conversation yourself by simply opening the dialogue and bouncing ideas off of one another. This is a huge factor that has led to my growth and success so far in 2023 and implementing it in your own life is sure to bear the same fruit for you.
Collaboration over competition
Business can be cutthroat and everyone is always looking at ways to undercut someone else. This attitude comes from a mindset of scarcity. Like an animal who killed its prey, the traditional business mindset is to save as much for yourself as you don’t know when your next kill will be and you don’t want to starve. You keep as much as possible for yourself even if you know it will leave other people out to starve. Instead of this traditionalist mindset, adopting the community and value-based mindset of collaborating with others every chance you get is the best way I know to 10x your business in a very modest amount of time. The benefits of this are great. For example, bringing in others will allow you to offload the parts of the business you don’t like doing so you can focus on what you’re best at. In addition, bringing in more people and sharing a piece of your kill will be reciprocated by those you share with.
Let’s go back to the predator in the wild example. If you are a lone animal who hunts, kills, and eats their own prey, all of this burden is on you and you will spend every waking moment doing every task. However, working in a pack will allow you vastly more options. Instead of getting that one kill and having one meal choice, with the backing of other predators at your side, you’ll now have options and going hungry is far less likely.
Business works in a very similar way. Unfortunately, most people are trained to eat what they kill and undercut others when they feel like they’re being threatened. Adopting the mindset of collaboration over competition with people who share your mindset is the most powerful tool there is to unlock unlimited success in any business venture you could possibly imagine. It has worked for me thus far in 2023 and I will continue to harness its power. My hope for you is that you do the same.
