Gaining And Utilizing Knowledge From Mentors

Mentors and the like are the key to your growth as an individual. If you want to 10X your mindset and reach new levels of success, it cannot be reached on your own. Surrounding yourself with people who are experts at what they do, and learning from them will help increase your overall capacity for knowledge. Pay attention to their mindsets, how they reached success, and what if anything they would do differently if they had to do it all over again. It is important to ensure that you’re learning from someone with experience in whatever it is they are teaching you. For example, you shouldn’t take advice on marketing from a website designer. Let’s examine some of the ways that mentors can and will help you gain the knowledge and sharpen the tools of success that you will need to achieve the highest levels of accomplishment that you so desire.

A bricklayer knows how to lay bricks

First and foremost, your mentors should be people who have experience in the field in which you will be learning from them. In the book, The Richest Man In Babylon, Arkad who is in fact the richest man in Babylon lost all of his money when he was learning to be wealthy. He did this by giving his money to a bricklayer because he told Arkad he would be able to get jewels and sell them for a significant profit for them both. Because the bricklayer had no experience in jewel buying, he lost all of the money and Arkad was broke. This is such a powerful lesson that still stands true today. So many internet gurus claim they can make you rich if you just follow their “one simple process”. This more often than not is a scam. A lot of these gurus are oftentimes not as successful as they say they are and this can lead you to be like Arkad and give all of your money to someone who very well might lose it. Vet your mentors carefully and make sure you only learn from the best!

Put your aspirations out there and mentors will gravitate towards you

The best way I can explain this is to use my life as an example. For the past year and a half, I have wanted to invest in real estate and start my wealth-building journey. It wasn’t until recently that I started to mention this out loud to everyone I talk to. I post books I am reading on social media and often talk about my aspirations with those I come in contact with. It is through my putting myself and my aspirations out there that have begun to attract mentors to my side because they see the opportunity they have with me so that we can both capitalize on opportunities that present themselves. I have arranged meet-ups and had serious conversations that have led to my gaining of knowledge in the real estate investing field. I am always inquiring to people who are real estate investors, or have experience in real estate for their knowledge by sharing my ambitions. From this, not only am I gaining the knowledge I need to succeed, but the people I speak to who are already experienced in real estate now know my story and see my ambition. They may decide they want to fund a deal for me or help me do something that I would have difficulty doing alone like providing connections for me to close deals and make sure they operate properly because they see my earning potential and want to capitalize on it in addition to the emotional sentiment they may feel for me based on the relationship we’ve built from our conversations. This is a huge gateway for me to reach levels that are difficult, time consuming, and seemingly impossible to do on my own. Having mentors will likely decrease my time to reach financial freedom significantly. The takeaway point from this section is the following. Share your story with others. Put yourself out there, especially to those in the field you are interested in. If you show your aspiration and are able to communicate and share your story with as many experienced people as possible, you will build relationships with mentors that will lead you to success. What are you waiting for? Let the world know who you are and what you’re here to do!

The richest man in babylon note

In this blog, I have mentioned the book The Richest Man In Babylon. I will later do a write up on this simple, century old book of financial literacy that is still perfect for today’s world. I have included a link for it here if you feel inclined to pick it up and give it a read. It is truly one that will change your life and explain wealth building like the simple process that it is.
