Hiring Remote Jobs: Virtual Assistants

Hiring remote jobs is the next step in the successful business process. This is the step in which you start to scale. Starting a business all by yourself may instill the mindset in you that only you have the capability to do everything your way. Escaping this frame of mind can be extremely difficult. In order to do this effectively, you have to analyze yourself and your biggest strengths and weaknesses. The simple solution would be to delegate weaknesses and focus on strengths, but it isn’t as easy as it sounds. Figuring out what you are best at and enjoy most can be a difficult process without some time for reflection and self-analysis. The key to this is to be as objective and honest as you can with yourself. The only way to grow is to let go of your pride and ego.

objective analysis

Pride and ego may be an issue when trying to figure out how to grow a business. Many people feel they are the best at everything and no one can do it better than themselves. This is a terrible and counterproductive way to reflect. Sometimes, the answer to objective analysis is to get someone you know and trust to do this for you. Make sure this person won’t just tell you what you want to hear and instead give you a truthful analysis of the situation at hand. Be receptive of what they have to say because their criticism is meant to be constructive and in no way intends to offend. This person can be a friend, family member, or anyone who you know will be honest and tell you how it is. Writing what you do daily out on a piece of paper and reflecting on each one of these tasks is another productive way to gauge strengths and weaknesses. Again, be honest because lying to yourself is only going to hurt you. Make sure you write out the tasks you are doing, and ones you never get to. This will allow you to see what is really taking up most of your time and what you should be doing in order to scale your business.

Having a vision

A vision is basically an analysis of where you are now, where you want to be, and how you will get there. I am currently reading the book “Vivid Vision” by Cameron Herold, and am learning how to make a vision that is not open to individual interpretation and depicts clearly where I want to go. This is so key because many companies have mission statements or vision boards that use one sentence or a few pictures and can be completely open to interpretation. This makes for disaster and confusion when trying to build a team because each person will have a different vision of the future from the same vague sentence or images. I will have more on this topic after I finish the book and practice a few times, but just remember that having a vision for your team is key in order to scale the right way. If not, people will aimlessly accomplish nothing due to no fault of their own. It is your job as a leader to make sure that this doesn’t happen, therefore your vision should be of upmost importance at this time in the scaling process.

Finding the right virtual assistants

VA’s can be found anytime by simply utilizing a Google search. I have found that some of the most cost-effective and efficient ways to hire is to recruit team members from overseas. Their quality of work is usually on par with the expectations you give them, and they cost less than $10 an hour. If you scout and interview assistants for long enough, you may find some diamonds in the rough and have someone who will really go above and beyond to help scale your business. Feel free to have these assistants go through some tests in the beginning to make sure their capabilities are what you need. You are able to filter through different types of VA’s online with different capabilities and backgrounds. Make sure your VA has the skillset you need and then begin to interview, test, and select the one or ones that are the best fit for you. Think of VA’s as an investment rather than an expense. This expense mindset will deter you from taking the actions necessary to grow your business. View things that will help you grow all as investments in your future. This mindset shift is a necessity of growth and expansion. Without it, you will undoubtedly fail.

Different virtual assistant sites

There are tons and tons of sites out there for VA’s or any outsourced work in general. In the book The 4 Hour Workweek, which I have discussed on this blog before, author Tim Ferriss offers a few great VA companies. Ask SundayBrickWorkTasks Everyday, and Your Man In India are all mentioned and used for different tasks in Tim’s life and businesses. These are great places to start when looking for VA’s. Another great place to find VA’s is through freelancing websites such as Fiverr or UpWork which offer their own range of specialty services. With these services provided and the mindset to look at these “expenses” as investments, the sky is the limit. There is no end to what you can accomplish when you have the right team, and a vision that everyone is on board with. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE FIRST!! Then after self-analyzation, start to build your team with VA’s and/or freelancers.
