Mastery is difficult. It takes a ton of time, effort, failure, and experience. There are highs and lows and thousands upon thousands of hours that go into mastery. With that being said, we as human beings don’t have the ability to unlock mastery in many things just because of the sheer time element of it alone. This is the reason that the solopreneur approach can only take you so far. Without great people around you with mastery over other things that are necessary in your business and/or life, you won’t reach near the same levels of success that could be possible for you. This is why gurus exist. Of course, many of them can be scammers, so watch out! However, if one achieves mastery in a skill that is sought after, there is merit to charging people to learn from their experience. I’ve seen this play out more than once in my life, and the higher I continue to level up, the more expensive the mentorship is. At the end of the day, the wisdom and knowledge you can learn from those who have achieved mastery is worth almost any price you can assign to it. This is the hack the most successful people use to become as successful as they do.
The jack of all trades problem
When many people see the price tags on guru mentorships or coaching programs, they tend to balk saying to themselves that they rather just teach themselves for that price! This is an extremely shortsighted approach. Those who offer their mentorship for a price have gone through the trials and tribulations of what it takes to achieve mastery. They’ve more than likely failed more times than they can count, put in more hours than most people can fathom, and developed their approach through time and experience. Paying a price for this SHOULD be expensive! These skills are valuable and it takes TONS of time and energy to acquire them. Money is like a shortcut to all of their knowledge upfront without having to go through any of their hardships. Learning from people like this and having them in your circle is worth a lot more than money. In many instances, these types of mentorships and coaches make your money back in a short timeframe and then help you 10X your business and life to the levels of which would be impossible on your own. Being a jack of all trades puts you in a position where there is a limited amount you can learn without getting completely burned out. What people fail to understand is that in the long run, money is replaceable and time is not. Saving time by using money now will reap massive rewards for you in the future.
How I leveraged the experience of others
When I was getting into real estate investing and looking to find a path to follow to acquire my own properties, I came across an online mentor named Pace Morby. He had a community full of creative investors that I could join, and together, learn through Pace how to use creative financing to buy homes across the country. I believed in Pace and his teachings. I saw the value of paying to be a part of his group. At the time, his mentorship, Subto with Pace Morby, was $8,000. $8,000 was a large chunk of the money I had to my name. The only other route I saw was to try and learn from the outside without all the resources which would cost me far more time and much less support. I decided to take the plunge and go all in. I joined the group and I was elated. I met some amazing people in there who I am now partners with to this day and we are running multi 6-figure businesses, but it didn’t start out that way. It took me 8 months of being in Subto before I bought my first deal. It took me an additional 2 months before I saw a cent! Although this seems like a long time, it really isn’t. Most people try real estate investing on their own and don’t make money for years. As a matter of fact, they probably lose some money! However, leveraging the experience of everyone around me, I was able to cut this learning curve down significantly so I could make a full-time income. Mentorship does not mean getting rich quick, but it certainly gives you the tools to cut down on the time to financial freedom if you’re willing to put in the work!
My team’s plan moving forward
Moving forward, my team and I are continuing to build a strong culture. We are working to stay in alignment with our goals both collectively and individually so we can all get to where we want to go. In order to do this effectively, there needs to be systems that will allow us to scale comfortably while maintaining and embodying the culture we are trying to build. As we grow, the people who can really add value to our business become more and more expensive simply because the mentorship becomes more niche and personalized. We are now entertaining options to leverage out help from mentors who are more experienced than us to come in for consulting and help us scale. As you can imagine, this is considerably expensive. However, the access to knowledge and wisdom leads to unparalleled growth and results. Those who reach the top of their game, whatever it is that may be, have implemented this principle into their lives and businesses. Figuring out how to leverage the experience of the right mentors no matter the price will catapult your life into a new stratosphere. Consider this before writing mentorship off as too expensive. Would you rather go through the years of unnecessary suffering or pay the price now? The choice is yours.
