Staying Focused During Times Of Distraction

The holiday season is a time for family, friends, and being grateful for what we have in our lives. It’s generally a time where a lot of people take a lot of time off. During this time as a young, hungry, and ambitious entrepreneur, it should be a time of staying focused and not letting yourself deviate from your goals and mission so as to not let this time of celebration turn into one of distraction. For the most part, a lot of people begin to let the excitement and anticipation of times like these allow themselves to take their foot off the gas for a prolonged period of time. Those who are at the building phase of their path to financial freedom do not let distractions get in the way of their goals.

Keeping steady when others take time off

“Out of the office” is the most commonly used phrase in business for the month of December and the beginning of January. While I’m a huge advocate for travel and family time, I will say that these times when people are taking their foot off the gas present huge windows of opportunity for people to capitalize. When your competition is taking time to themselves and they’re not actively working to best you, it gives you the opportunity to go out and hustle for more of the lion’s share of business. For example, in real estate, December is typically a slow month. This is due to a combination of factors being that sellers are typically not looking to sell, and most professionals who process transactions are taking extensive time off. However, December this year was my biggest month to date because my team and I made sure to stay consistent with our game plan and even upped the amount of people we were talking to. This has led to two closings and another deal (possibly 2 at this point) contracted and set to close in January. This success rate would not be possible if we had let distractions get to us which they very well could have at one point or another. Making sure that we were continuing to take consistent action led to a lot of business. And, of course, we still spent the holidays with our families!

There will always be an excuse

At every turn, people are always looking for excuses to get lazy and complacent. At any given time, there will always be an excuse that one could find to do so. Distraction tries to convince the mind that because of reason x, something you would normally do or want to do can’t be done at this time. This creates a habit of procrastination that can be extremely difficult to snap out of and back into the rhythm of things. The only thing you can do to avoid falling into this trap is to train your mind to recognize when your brain is trying to find excuses for you to get out of something and fight that emotional response before you react to it. Whenever our first reaction to something is to respond emotionally, it typically is a bad idea to act on that emotion. If you want to find an excuse not to do something or get out of something, that is incredibly easy to do. But to achieve financial freedom, this feeling of complacency and remaining at the status quo must be fought off at all costs.

Full steam ahead

The name of the game on the road to financial freedom is consistency. Those who can stay the most consistent at any time through thick and thin will ultimately be the ones who find the most success at anything they attempt to do. A winning formula isn’t so much complex as it is difficult. It is difficult to remain focused during times when it can be easy to be distracted. It isn’t easy to turn off the voice in your head making excuses for your inconsistency and complacency, However, with the right mindset, this can be mastered and overcome and financial freedom can be achieved so long as you stay focused!
