Thinking ahead for 2022 is a something that everyone is doing right now. It is the beginning of December, and everyone is getting prepared for the holiday season. This is a time to celebrate and come together with family. It also presents a time where reflection on your past year becomes a huge focus. Successes, failures, regrets and missed opportunities are among the most common things people tend to reflect on from the prior year. Being open and honest about the past year to be able to reflect on it objectively in order to improve is a huge opportunity for growth. Take what you did this year and build on it little by little next year.
Reflecting and Analyzing
Good, bad, or indifferent, all of your experiences from the prior year teach us lessons and help us figure out the game of life and ourselves in a more comprehensive way. It is important to be honest with yourself about what you truly accomplished and went through in 2021. This will help set the framework for 2022 so that we aren’t just “chasing our tail” so to speak, and instead making noticeable and rewarding progress towards our overall goals. By being honest with ourselves, we can see our strengths and weaknesses, learn what we need to improve, and help get a sense of what we should pursue or not in 2022.
Goal setting for 2022
Goals can be new or piggyback off of prior goals, but they should all have one thing in common. They should push you out of your comfort zone, but be achievable for the timeframe you have allotted to it. A lot of people set goals that are so incredibly high which is a great thing to do, but give themselves such little time to accomplish it. This way of thinking may resort to discouragement even if progress has been made towards that goal. For example, as an aspiring real estate investor with zero properties, your 2022 goal should not be to have 100 units by the end of the year! This is not tangible at all unless you have millions of dollars and talented people at your disposal! Set your goal to something achievable, but that pushes you to your limit as well. Your goal in this example scenario can vary based on work ethic, risk tolerance, capital, aggressiveness, and many other things. For some people, 5 properties might be the 2022 goal. For others, 1 may be their goal (keep in mind in this example, this is for people who are just starting out with 0 properties). Goal setting is subjective to each individual and can vary greatly from person to person. Remember, the premise of goal setting is for it to push your limit, but be attainable for the time period you set for it. This may mean that some people shatter their original goals and this is okay! Shattering a goal sends a signal to you that your goals are getting too easy and it is time to aim higher! Whatever you do, make sure that you don’t set your sights too high and miss the mark right away. These ultimate large goals will come in time if you build the foundation to reach them!
having clear intentions and sticking with them
Making sure your goals are clearly defined is of upmost importance. If left vague, this can lead towards misinterpretation of a goal or inaction altogether! You want to avoid this at all costs. Make sure that your goals are outlined in an achievable way that makes sense to you. Once this is completed, stick with these goals!! So many people make “New Year’s Resolutions” like to go to the gym and get fit. This usually lasts for the first week or two of January, and then dies down back to normal. People fall off so quickly and then come up with a plethora of excuses to justify their inaction to themselves. This of course is not an option you want to pursue. As we talk about often, success in whatever you chose does not come over night. It takes consistent, concentrated action. Without this, a goal isn’t worth anything more than the paper it is written on! If you want to read more about why consistent action is so important, read on by clicking here.
My personal analysis and goals for 2022
In 2021, I have accomplished a lot, even some things I didn’t foresee myself accomplishing at the end of 2020. For instance, I became a real estate agent and did a handful of deals which is something I’d like to build on. I am finishing up my last semester of college as I write this and am excited for the next chapter in my life. As far as other things I can reflect on, my Amazon business is in need of improvement as it has been stagnant for months. I would like my blog message to reach more people than it currently is. I also have learned so much about investing in real estate and haven’t taken much action as of yet to pursue this passion. With all that being said, my 2022 goals look something roughly like this:
- Increase traffic to my blog by leveraging knowledge and outsourcing from the people I hire. This includes my current marketing manager, and anyone else I feel as though I may need. One thing that pops into my head now is a social media manager. This is something I’d like to target moving forward to grow my presence on these platforms.
- For my Amazon business, I need to hire a listing optimizer for my products to ensure we are ranking for intended keywords and selling consistently. I would also like to develop a marketing team to promote our catalogue, as well as start to sell our products in local retail stores in addition to Amazon.
- I want to sell 10 houses in 2022 and learn the ins and outs of this process so I have a larger “tool belt” so to speak than I do now.
- 2-3 properties are my goal as far as real estate investing goes. I am currently organizing some partnerships and I want to determine the roles in these relationships in 2022.
- As far as my personal life goes, I want to start yoga and meditation consistently at a club location. I have a place in mind that I want to start at and I am really looking forward to using this as a source of stress release and to improve my overall health. I am also looking into developing a relationship with a nutritionist to help me plan weekly diet plans since it has been really difficult for me do this myself given the limited time that I have. This relates to the Who Not How process that we have talked much about over the last few weeks on this blog. Last but not least, traveling with my girlfriend is a huge goal for me this year. Last year, we went to South Dakota. This year we are planning a trip to Arizona and Utah!
These are just some thoughts that come to my head when I think of 2022 goals. I am obviously going to consolidate them and make sure they are comprehensive and readable when I complete my final goal sheet which I recommend you all do. The purpose of this was to just give you some ideas so that when you sit down to write whatever comes into your head, you know it will first be sloppy, but will be cleaned up later. Just get your ideas on paper any worry about everything else after! Set your goals, go out there and achieve them!
